costume

have a specific outfit shows the audience that the character is a district nurse who look profession. the work our fit makes it look as she is at work and it is an ordinary day which maeks it seem as if nothing out unusal shoudl happen

props

we used a car to show that the districte nurse was a professional that had to travel a far distance giving the sence that she is by her self and that she has no support. it also make the actor seem old enough to be a district nurse.

we used a candle to give an eerie effect. The glow in the basement make the audience know that there is something wrong. We like the shadow effect on the walls behind the actor that the candle light caused, it made the basement seem as if the evironment seems unnatural and as if there is something esle with her.

the folder give the actor a more professional look as it seems that there is lots she must know/ do. it also make her look as if it is just another ordinary day at work for her.

actors

we decised to use one actor in our opening sequence so the audeience could understand what is happening rather than going from one character to another. our actriss is danielle garden (me). she plays a district nurse visiting an elderly woman in her house.

this is a pic from the film. we decide to use me as the actor because my group decided that i was a good actor, and that i could express the correct emotion for the role. i need to be able to show the worry i had for Polly and how anxious the nurse was going into the dark basment.

location

After lots of decisions we decided use use Meg's house. this is because we decided that a normal house would build tension as they wouldn't expect anything unusual to happen, as well as this her house had a basement this mean we can use the stereotype of something bad always happening in the basement to use some of the idea typical of the horror genre.

Question 1

In what way does your media production use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media productions?
I interpret this to mean; what differences are there between my production and one of a typical horror.

i think that the best way to anwer this question is with an interview this of the main actor (Danielle Garden), who plays margaret the district nurse.  this is because it wil give the adience an insight veiw of what the actor think of the film and how they felt when being apart of the production. an exemple of an interveiw with emma waston after she had been in the tale of Despereaux.

By having an interview it can help the audience and the interview see how the actor/actress really feels about the film not how she is meant to feel about it which they can hide when answering questions online, they can see if they are really excited or if they don't think it will be a great success by the body ques they give. it can also keep the actor in focus as they cant get distracted.

I think using an interview style technique to answer this question is good because you can see if the actor think that the convention they used was appropriate to the type of film they did, and if they would have do it slightly differently if they had known what they know about the production now.

Question 2

How does your media production represent particular social groups?
My interpretation: what group of people will best connect/understand the character in the film.

I think that they best way to answer this question is with the a slideshow. This is because it will quickly get what social group our production represented and why it was the best option to represent that group.

This link take you to some examples of good presentations
http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/inspiring-slideshare-presentations-for-marketers-list

By having a PowerPoint the audience can easy understand what is being said and why it is that we chose to represent that social group; working class. By doing a PowerPoint the facts come across clearly and their is no objective point in the presentation.

Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribution your media product and why?
My interpretation; what type of production would help promote the audience to buy my film and why?

I think the best method of answering this question is using links. This is because I can find websites that explain the type of media productions that would produce our media production. links are a good methods because there websites can give the audience more detailed information about the production.
http://www.tigeraspect.co.uk/
This link is to tiger aspects production, it is a independent production label. our production would be most likely be an independent production label because there are unknown people, it is a small group and it was low cost. An independent production label means not as much money can go into advertising and producing which means there will be less publicity.

however if it had been a larger production it would more likely have been a major conglomerate production label such as Sony.
http://www.sonypictures.co.uk/

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media production?
My interpretation; who would come to see the film

The best way to answer this question is using audio,  as I can clearly tell the audience who would be likely to come see my film. An audio would help the audience to hear what audience we wanted to come see the film and now after the production the more likely audience to come see our production.

Question 5

how did you attract/address your audience
my interpretation; how would you have the film promoted to go see/ buy it

i think that the best way to answer this question is with images and graphs as I can show how a type of advertisement has developed in popularity. It is a good method as the audience can see why this type of promote has become more popular and why we would use it. We would use cheaper methods of advertising as we wont have much money to spend on the advertising due to the production label being independent as they wont be make as large enough profit to spend on promoting our productions as a larger label such as Sony.

there are different ways of advertising this graph so this so of the popular methods and none popular
methods of advertising

it would be like that we would use social media and word of mouth as it would be free and the promote the film incredibly well so lots of people would find out about the production.

Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of the constructing this production?
My interpretation; what technology did we use and what we did with it?

this link send you to a prezi presentation that ansers this question, to use it just it just press the spcae bar

http://prezi.com/6kpkyf70c6ut/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
My interpretation; Have I made progress since I did my preliminary task?

I am going to answer this question in a presentation. this is because it will be easy to present the information and i can break the question into pieces so that its can be answers with more precision and detail.

editing

we have edited most of the filming however we have noticed that during the driving scene that can can see the man driving the car which breaks continuity of the scene when Margret gets out of the car so to stop the break  we have decided to get some more shots. the shots we will get are of the inside of the car, we have also place space where titles can go.
we have been able to edit the fliming clips that we got when we went to the set, this means that we have to been able to sort match on action and continuity so that if look whole, and if it was one in one motion. We also managed to put in teh sound effect to maek it seem or realistic, we have sound some backgroud music that can we add, however we ran our of time to put it in, in this session.

dance to the radio

I have done some research on an independent record label called dance to the radio, it is a small independent record label in Leeds.

back again

we noticed that we were missing a few shots such as Margret not going to try the light switch first and we decided we want a close up of her face as she hears the crash in the basement which took quite a few shot as i could quite get the look of fear correct as i turn around. we also need to get shot of inside the car to replace the shot we get of the man in the car as i couldn't drive due to being too young.

first day of post-production

We have started to put our filmed pieces together on a program call movie 6. We can all start to see our idea come together with what we have filmed. However we still need to get a few more camera shots and angles, so we will have to go back. We have decided to get a close up scene of the district nurse trying the light switch and a close up of her face looking panicked as she turns to go to the basement. Otherwise we managed to successfully do most of our filming before schedule.

SONY completed research

We have done more research into SONY to help use with the case study in the exam paper this is what we have found out

first day of production

We went to our setting today, their is a good eeriness about it that will add effect to the spookiness. We thought it would be easier to start at the beginning of the story so we knew what shot we needed and what other possibilities there were for us to use. So we started out side with the nurse driving, to do this scene we got one of our crew mate dad to drive the car along, then we had to get the district nurse (Margery=me) to get in the car so they could film me getting out. We then got scenes of me walking to the door and knocking, I then look though the letter box where we managed to get a shot reverse shot. once Margery notice the door is open she wonders slow in side calling for Polly (the old women she has come to see) she looks around the house before hearing a clash in the basement and rushing down to see if "Polly" is okay and never returning. We managed to get all the shots we wanted and a few more.

shot pace

we did research on different shot using in film such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEVef9o-LeI this help give us ideas for creating a tense atmosphere. This scene uses slow shot to build tension in the audience as they will be sitting on the edge of their seats. there are other videos such as this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZxNbAwY_rk that use faster scenes to show the speed and action that is happening is is common in films where is is something happening.

titles

Then we did some research on titles using this website http://www.artofthetitle.com/. This website was very useful as it gave us lot of different ways of adding in our titles such as just placing them like The Shining did or weather we incorporate them into the scene like The Conjuring.

outfit

Once that was decided we did research on the nurses outfit and the different types

however we chose the second one as it was more common for district nurse to wear on home visits, as well as it was easy for use to get hold of one as we knew someone how had one from when they were a nurse

where??

the first thing we did was research genres of films: comedy, horror, drama, sci-fi, thriller, action, romance.
Once decided on horrors and that we wanted it to be a hunted house we look at locations

however we decided to use a ordinary house so we can make the tension higher we the audience realize that there is something wrong, which is why we used this house

we did research on different shot using in film such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEVef9o-LeI this help give us ideas for creating a tense atmosphere.

Wide shot of starting to walk down basement stairs
Point of view shot of Dani’s view of basement
Extreme close up of candle being blown out in time of sound effect

2nd meeting- a change in plots

We have decided to change our idea slightly. We have decide to make the house hunted. We have decided that instead of two girls we will have a districted nurse come to visit an elderly lady in her home. As this gives her a reason to be there and a reason to wonder around the house. she will cautiously look around the ground floor and start heading up the stairs when she hears a noise in the basement.  she will light a candle and walk into the basement and when she is at the bottom the candle will blow out, and she will be left in complete darkness.
To do this we have done research to see what the nurse would wear and what they might do in a similar circumstance. we also did research into what type of person the district nurse should be we did this by searching job descriptions in the NHS website ( http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/explore-by-career/nursing/careers-in-nursing/district-nursing/ ) they give a explanation of what kind of person would be a district nurse.

first meeting for main task ideas

The first thing we discussed, once we were in our groups, was what genre we wanted to use. We decided this by making a list of all the different types we could name and then crossing out the ones we didn't think we could do for example science fiction. We also decided that we didn't want to do genres such as comedy because we didn't think we were funny enough. Eventually we narrowed our choices down to horror and thriller. In the end we decided on thriller as we all preferred the story line. We then decided to make a presentation which included our mood board, our preferred settings and cast, and what the treatment was going to be for the story. This is what we created;

Tuesday, 10 February 2015

the audience

We will need to consider who will come and see our production, why they would want to? We have decided to do a horror film which means that if we want to make it really scary we will have to have a age rating on it however can we afford to do effect to make it look real, how do we make it scary enough to make people who are interested in horror film cam and see it? So we decide that it would look best and attract the most people if we didn't do anything extravagant as we either would have the equipment to make it look good enough or we wouldn't know how to use it. People would come to see the film to relax or to get a thrill/adrenalin rush

main task-brief

The brief for the main task is to film the opening sequence of a new fiction film to last approximately two minutes. When filming an opening sequences it is important to remember that it is just an opening sequence and therefore shouldn't give away too much of the story. The film has to be fiction so we cannot base it on someone's life. We must add titles (which include the director and the actors), the sound track (due to copyright) and it must last at least two minutes long.

what pre-production is

Pre-production is a part of the filming process that comes before production. During the pre -production directors (we) will be discussing; the script, the budget, location, script break down (what we will need to do in each scene), casting, storyboard, shot list, titles, shooting schedule and organizing (gear/props/costumes). Each of these thing will need to be thought about before the filming. This is to make sure that the crew know what they should be doing and when they need to be doing it. For example, the camera man or woman will need to know what angles/shot the director want or what kind of atmosphere they want the audience to have when watching the film. There is this really good YouTube Chanel called film riot, it shows you all the tricks to pre-production: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuP3aBmSdU8

SONY beginning of research

what opening sequences is

opening sequences is when a film introduces a what will be happening and who will be in it, in the opening sequence there are usually title that tell the audience the actors that will be in it and who the director is.
